Flagler College is one of about 30 colleges that is partnering with the Pulitzer Center as part of the non-profit organization’s Campus Consortium.
The Campus Consortium gives students the opportunity to travel practically anywhere in the world to pursue stories that are under-reported or unreported.
The Pulitzer Center website states:
The Campus Consortium is a network of partnerships between the Pulitzer Center and universities and colleges to engage with students and faculty on the critical global issues of our time.
At its core, the initiative aims to connect international reporting supported by the Pulitzer Center directly with communities across the U.S., expanding knowledge of the world, sparking conversations across disciplines and inspiring individuals to expand their horizons. We aim to accomplish these goals through campus visits by journalists and international reporting fellowship opportunities for students.
The purpose of Pulitzer Pitches is to showcase information about students’ proposals. The goal is to try to help these students fulfill their dreams and carry out journalism projects that could lead to greater awareness of pressing yet under-reported global issues and enriching and life-changing experiences for the students.
Students competing for the Pulitzer grant enroll in a 3-credit class designed to help them craft their proposals. Dr. Brenda Kauffman, who teaches international studies classes at the college, is leading the course.
Among those assisting with the Pulitzer Center collaboration at Flagler College:
- Jill Dawson, director of the college’s First Year Experience and Co-Curricular Program.
- Jim Toedtman, visiting professor and director of the Flagler College Forum on Government and Public Policy.
- Tracey Eaton, an assistant professor and two-time Pulitzer Center grant recipient.
